Resort Overview

St Johann in Tirol is located between the Kitzbüheler Horn and the impressive Wilder Kaiser mountains and is part of the Schneewinkel area which offers over 120 kilometres of piste including the Steinplatte at Waidring. The resort has a good après-ski scene and is a great choice for beginners, intermediates and mixed ability groups.

With Salzburg Airport one hour away and Innsbruck just a little over one hour, St Johann is an excellent choice for a short ski break or ski weekend. Its location is also ideal for exploring a number of other nearby ski areas: Kitzbühel, Söll, Ellmau are all within 15 minutes and are covered on the larger Kitzbuheler Alpen All-Star pass.

On the Mountain

St Johann offers just under 70 kilometres of pistes locally which are mostly north-facing and are mainly tree-lined, wide, long and great for cruising with a few challenges for advanced riders.

Novices start on the gentle nursery slopes at the foot of the mountain before quickly progressing onto the many blues and easy reds above the resort. Most of the runs are well-suited to intermediate skiers who will find more than enough mileage here and on the Schneewinkel area to keep them happy.

A free ski bus connects to the Steinplatte at Waidring and the train to Kitzbühel is free (12 minutes direct to the Hahnenkamm) with the extended Kitzbuheler Alpen All-Star pass.

With more mountain restaurants per kilometre of piste than any other Austrian resort, St Johann is definitely a resort for the more social rather than the die-hard skier. However, it is also a superb base for exploring the Schneewinkel, Kitzbühel and Ski Welt areas.

The resort has a fun park and funslope (slope, park and ski-cross combined).

Off the Mountain

Bar Max at the bottom of the slopes attracts the bulk of the après-ski crowd and there are plenty of other lively bars in town to explore later in the evening. Nearby Kitzbühel offers a bigger and better choice of nightlife and is a short 15 minute taxi ride away.

Other activities available include the Recreation Centre with indoor pool, sauna and solarium, massage, gym and tennis courts, a floodlit toboggan run, ice-skating, flying fox zipwire and hot air ballooning.

There is a great choice of restaurants serving traditional and international cuisine and, for larger groups, our Resort Manager can book restaurants on your behalf.
