When and where to go?

High season in Austria includes the New Year week and much of February and, at this time, most hotels will only accept seven night stays on a Saturday to Saturday basis particularly in the more well-known resorts. Best availability can be found pre-Christmas, in January, early February, March and April.

As a general rule, the bigger the resort, the less flexible the hotel availability. Smaller resorts offer much better value and availability, less crowded slopes, shorter transfers and are still close to larger resorts for day trips.

Ski and snowboard weekend resorts in Austria

Fieberbrunn – Tirol’s best kept secret: Fantastic snow record, great off-piste, local resort manager, good après-ski and great value. Just one hour from Salzburg.
St Johann in Tirol – A lively resort town, good skiing locally and easy access to Kitzbuhel (10 minutes) and Ski Welt resorts. One hour from Salzburg.
Kitzbuhel – One of Austria’s finest resorts with some top-quality hotels. Weekends at a premium.
Kirchberg – Kitzbuhel’s sister resort offering the same ski area without the price tag of Kitzbuhel.
Saalbach – extensive ski are and excellent après-ski. Tight for availability in high season but reasonably flexible in January and March.
Westendorfand Obertauern – tricky for availability but worth a try in low season!
St Anton – A premium priced destination with very limited ski weekend hotel possibilities. Some possibilities in January and March.

Airport gateways to ski resorts in Austria

Salzburg, Innsbruck and Munich are the main gateway airports to the Austrian Alps - click here to check out low cost ski flight routes and prices. We offer small group minibus taxi transfers that ensure waiting time is kept to a minimum and can also offer exclusive private transfers. We also offer airport car hire including snow tyres, snow chains and ski racks.

And finally….

…..a word of warning before booking those super cheap no-frills flights mid-week in high season. In Austria, many hoteliers expect to be full in high season on a Saturday to Saturday basis and, in practice, this is very often the case. Trying to get availability in the centre of St Anton for a short weekend break in the middle of February is quite simply a no-no and, whilst we would like to offer a totally flexible service, our hands are often tied.
