The Stubai Valley lies high above Innsbruck and offers four ski areas of which the Stubai Glacier is the main attraction. Stubai is Austria's largest glacier ski area offering over 100 kilometres of snow-sure slopes which are open from October to June and the area is best suited for beginners and intermediates with some terrain for experts.
Hotels and accommodation are spread throughout the valley with most guests staying in the main resort of Neustift, a pretty, Tyrolean village which is around 15 minutes on the free ski bus to the Stubai Glacier. Slightly smaller Fulpmes is also a popular base and has skiing locally at Schlick 2000. Neustift offers a wide choice of hotel and accommodation options and has a very good range of shops, bars and cafés.
The transfer time from Innsbruck Airport to Neustift is just 30 minutes so, if a short transfer time and guaranteed snow are high on your agenda, look no further!

There are around 150 kilometres of runs in the Stubai Valley with 110 kilometres of these on the Stubai Glacier (1750m – 3210m). The Stubai valley offers four areas: Serles - at the start of the valley, Schlick 2000 at Fulpmes – around 25 kilometres of easy to intermediate leisurely slopes and some rustic and atmospheric huts, the Elferlift – which starts in Neustift itself and offers two 8 kilometre toboggan runs and the Stubai Glacier at the head of the valley.
Most skiers and snowboarders head to the Stubai Glacier which offers 25 lifts and is Austria's largest glacier ski area boasting 110 kilomtres of runs. An efficient lift network whisks skiers and snowboarders from the base station to the mountain centres of Gamsgarten and Eisgrat.
At the very top of Stubai, the 'Top of Tyrol' viewing station at 3210 metres provides a breath-taking panorama of the Alps. Runs from the top of the resort are wide, open, flattering blues with the terrain becoming steeper as you descend. The area is best suited to beginners and intermediates with some off-piste and challenging itinerary routes for advanced and expert skiers.
There is a kindergarten at Gamsgarten providing all day childcare (0845-1600; from 3 years onwards) and children under 10 are entitled to free lift passes when parents purchase lift passes.
Of the 150 kilometres of pistes in the Stubai Valley, 45 km is rated as black/difficult, 45 km as red/intermediate and 60 km blue/easy.
Off piste, there are plenty of options with several itinerary routes on the Stubai Glacier including the Wilde Grub'n trail which descends over 1000 vertical metres. Day and multi-day ski tours are popular on the glacier. There are three ski schools in the Stubai valley and the Stubai Glacier offers a big park with kickers, rails and boxes - more details at www.stubai-zoo.com.
The mountain huts and restaurants on the Stubai Glacier close promptly to ensure all skiers and boarders are off the Glacier in good time and, once down at the Stubai bottom station, the ever-popular umbrella bar draws the après-ski crowds. The last ski bus heads back down the valley to Neustift around 7pm, later at the weekend.
Neustift has a good selection of cafés, bars and restaurants with the most popular bars located around the Dorfplatz and include the Dorf Pub and American bar. Whilst not on the same scale as the likes of St Anton or Solden, there is a good après-ski scene and a wide selection of traditional and international restaurants in Neustift. Fulpmes is slightly smaller than Neustift and offers après-ski at the bottom of the Schlick 2000 local area and has a good selection of local bars, restaurants and shops.
Other activities in the valley include the swimming and leisure centre in Neustift (free with the Stubai Super Skipass), tobogganing on Tyrol's longest toboggan runs (Elferlift from Neustift, floodlit three times a week), snowshoe hiking, sleigh rides, ice skating and ice climbing (Gamsgarten on Stubai Glacier).
Please note that we do not have full-time Resort Managers in Stubai. Our team are based in Fieberbrunn and are always contactable by mobile.
