RESORT PROFILE
The medieval town of Schladming is located in the province of Styria (Steiermark) approximately one hour to the east of Salzburg and is the winter and summer sporting centre for this part of Austria. It is much more than just a purpose built ski resort and offers a very attractive, pedestrianised central promenade with a wide choice of shops, restaurants, bars and cafés.
On the International ski circuit, Schladming is best known for the annual World Cup night slalom which takes place in January when the town virtually erupts!
There is 175 kilometres on offer locally and the area is ideal for intermediate skiers and snowboarders.
LIFTS AND SLOPES
The local ski area consists of four interconnected mountains (Hauser Kaibling, Planai, Hochwurzen and Reiteralm) with 115 kilometres of lift-connected piste.
Adding in the Dachstein Glacier (2700 m) and the outlying resorts increases the mileage on offer and Schladming is also part of the vast Ski Amadé region. A free ski bus service connects the main ski areas in the Schladming area.
The main area offers skiing up to 2015 metres and there is extensive snow-making particularly on the valley runs ensuring good skiing late into the season.
Around the mountain, there is no shortage of charming restaurants offering international and Styrian specialities.

SKIING AND SNOWBOARDING
With around three quarters of all runs graded red, the area is ideal for intermediate skiers and snowboarders.
Beginners are well catered for and start off on the nursery area accessed by the Planai Gondola. Progression is then onto the blues on Hochwurzen and some of the easier red runs.
Most runs are tree-lined and offer great terrain for all but the most expert of skiers who will enjoy taking on the two World Cup runs. Off-piste there are some good runs at the top of the resort.
Snowboarders are well catered for with half pipes and a fun park.
OFF THE SLOPES
At the bottom of the Planai Gondola next to the World Cup race finish area, the all-new and positively vast Hohenhaus Tenne offers five floors of après-ski entertainment including no less than eight bars, dancing and restaurants.
The town centre is a short stroll away and there are a number of après-ski haunts here as well as a good choice of bars for later on (Siglu, Niederl’s bar and Hanglbar) and excellent choice of good value eateries.
The resort also offers sleigh rides, tobogganing, winter walking trails and a large swimming and sauna centre.
