RESORT PROFILE
Lofer is a small and pretty village with a pedestrianised centre situated just over half an hour from Salzburg, ideal for small groups and ski and snowboard weekends.
The resort is relatively unknown to British visitors which makes for a refreshing change from the larger, busier and more popular Austrian ski resorts. The village centre is compact with traditional bars and restaurants and offers excellent value and great skiing and snowboarding for beginners, intermediates, weekenders and families.
Lofer is another one of those small and friendly, off the well-worn track Austrian resorts whose regular guests prefer to keep the secret to themselves.
LIFTS AND SLOPES
There are 46 kilometres of piste in total on the Loferer Alm, the longest of which is over 9 kilometres down to the valley floor, a vertical drop of over 1000 metres.
From the resort, the main gondola takes you up into the main ski area which has a very good snow record and snow-making on all of its lower slopes. As is typical in this part of Austria, there are some wonderful rustic mountain restaurants serving traditional Austrian fare with great views of the surrounding mountains.
The resort is also well served by buses and road access to other Austrian ski resorts nearby including Waidring (10 minutes), St Johann in Tirol (25 minutes), Leogang (25 minutes), Maria Alm (25 minutes), Kitzbuhel (40 minutes), Zell am See (40 minutes) and Saalbach Hinterglemm (45 minutes).

SKIING AND SNOWBOARDING
The area is perfect for beginners and intermediates and also offers excellent nursery lifts and slopes for small children. Whilst few of the runs will provide a great challenge for experts, there is some off-piste but one of the main reasons to visit this resort is to enjoy the lack of crowds, dramatic mountain views and friendly, local ski school.
OFF THE SLOPES
Aprés-ski is generally low key and informal and there are a number of small pubs, bars and cafés to explore in the evening. Given that Lofer has yet to step into the limelight as one of Austrian’s better known resorts, you can be sure of excellent and good value food in one its many restaurants. Additionally, the resort offers tobogganing, curling and sleigh rides.
Please note the resort of Lofer is not staffed.
