The editors at ‘Where to Ski and Snowboard’ have done the sums on which resorts and, in particular, which countries are the most expensive when it comes to the price of drinks and restaurants in resort.
Given the weakness of the pound over the last 2 winters, holidaymakers have been hit hard with pricey lunches and expensive après-ski drinks. What the survey finds is that by travelling to a smaller Austrian resort, you can more or less half your eating and drinking costs compared with the big name French resorts.
As the report confirms: ‘The big surprise for many people though will be that Austria looks a relative bargain’. And we agree. Many of the Austrian resorts are year-round destinations and don’t notch up the prices of lunches and drinks in the high Winter Season. In Fieberbrunn for example, lunchtime soups are EURO 4, Spaghetti Bolognese EURO 8 and a large beer EURO 3.30. You can’t grumble at that!
